Christmas presents (pardon the pun) us with many reasons to be joy filled, but also a variety of opportunities for increased stress levels. Reduce these stresses with some pre-planning.

Christmas tree with glowing lights, surrounded by wrapped presents in a dimly lit room. Cozy and festive atmosphere.

When I am planning a renovation or assisting with a new build one of the questions I like ask clients is “Where will you put your Christmas Tree”.

It might sound a little crazy to consider a once-a-year decoration and the requirements it needs, but if you plan your location when you plan your renovation or new build, you’ve just taken out some of the stress triggers of the season. I have worked with clients who “don’t do” Christmas, and some who had 3 different areas for Christmas trees, because they display 3 trees each year. One in the foyer, one in the music room and one in the sitting room.

So what do you need to know for your planning:

  • How tall and wide is your tree?

  • Will it be on view from the street?

  • Will it be decorated on all sides or is it in a corner?

  • What goes in the allocated space, if anything, the rest of the year?

  • How many power outlets will you want to use?

  • Do you need a wall anchor to prevent pet topple?

  • Where will you store it and the decorations when it’s done for the year?

It’s quite a bit to consider I know, but worth the effort so setting up and pulling down will be easy and you can, instead, turn your thoughts to the menu and the gift list.
